Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton has offered Paul Robinson hope ahead of the new season by insisting his international career can get back on track.
Robinson lost his England place to David James when his form dipped last season and his position at Tottenham has looked uncertain following the arrival of Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven.

But Shilton said: "I still feel there is a lot of improvement in Robinson, he has a lot of ability and had a spell of games when he didn't concede a goal for England,"

He added: "He's still our next most experienced goalkeeper (after James), who is there for experienced goalkeepers after that?

"Only those two have played a lot of games, Robinson and David James, so they are going to be the foundation of the England team but whether there is enough time for another one to come through, I can't say."
